Get Your 6.6 on Route 66

Instead of Get Your Kicks on Route 66, Get Your 6.6 on Route 66 this year! The 9th Annual Route 66 race is occurring on Saturday, August 27th. The CORE of McLean sponsors the event as a nonprofit organization. All proceeds go to benefit the community of McLean, IL.

The race is a 6.6k which is equivalent to 4.1 miles. Participants are able to walk or run. They start in Funks Grove and will follow Route 66 to end at the park under the water tower in McLean. This park was recently built and funded from proceeds from the years prior.

To begin, everyone will be able to park in McLean and then will be shuttled down to Funks Grove. The shuttle service will run from 6:45-7:15 am. Check in and bib pickup will be available once you arrive at Funks Grove Pure Maple Sirup. Each racer will then be given a shot of pure maple sirup for an extra boost of energy before the race! The race will begin at 8 am. At the finish line, each racer will receive a t-shirt, swag bag, and refreshments. Awards will be given out shortly after. Participants will be split into age groups for the awards.

During this event, there will be other activities occurring at the town square. There will be a custom backdrop and photo booth. Chubby’s Bar and Grill will provide brunch items. Music will be playing at the beverage tent that includes cold beer, wine, and many other beverages. Ruby’s Rescue and Retreat will bring along their dogs and puppies that are adoptable and ready to meet everyone! They will also have a silent auction running to benefit the shelter. Lastly, many cars will be out for the cruise-in that is being organized by Mid State Cruisers. This will be filled with antique, classic, new cars, trucks, and motorcycles.

Registration is open to participate in the race online and via mail. It costs $40 up until July 15th and then $45 until the race. On the day of the event, registration will cost $55. The fee includes a t-shirt, brunch, drinks, gifts, and a commemorative shot glass. Make sure to sign up by August 1st to guarantee a t-shirt.

Volunteers are also needed to ensure that the day runs smoothly! The CORE of McLean is open to having more sponsors that will appear on the t-shirts. If interested in helping or sponsoring, email core.mclean@gmail.com. The deadline to put in a sponsorship is July 15th. Community members are also welcome to attend the festivities on the day of the event.
