RAVING REVIEW: SISSY is not necessarily unique but still an enjoyable entry into the long list of Shudder originals I’m continually shocked by. The platform generally gets a lot of negative comments, but I’ve been impressed by most of their films.

I didn’t know anything going into this, and it was one of the screeners Shudder so graciously shared with me. Initially, I wasn’t sure if this would be something for me, but it was a blast once the movie found its footing. Specifically, the film's lead, Aisha Dee, playing Cecilia, was a joy to watch. She had this feeling about her the entire movie. You never could quite read her, and it kept you on your toes.

This is a fantastic entry into Shudder’s 61 Days of Halloween and the last before the start of October. On the surface, the film is a bit of a revenge horror, but it’s sprinkled with just the right amount of comedy and commentary that allows you to never really get burned out on any specific aspect of the story. A mix of digital and practical effects, both done incredibly well, ends up making the film's horror elements much more believable.

As I mentioned, the film also offers commentary; it puts social media's downfall into perspective. While it may be a bit ironic coming from someone who posts regularly across multiple social media platforms, I see and understand the dangers of letting that world take you over. While it may not be a physical drug, the high you get from likes, followers, etc., is real. This aspect of the film is almost scarier than the physical dangers throughout. What happens when that rush is put at risk of being taken away from you?  After working to gain thousands of followers, I lost my Facebook page, and I will be the first to admit that it takes a toll on you!
